Prints of Clapham and Battersea in London.

As you’ll know if you’ve been reading my blog I lived in London for may years and If you lived in Clapham from about 2003 until 2013 you’ll remember my stall in Northcote Road market. I used to sell framed pictures there on a Friday and Saturday. The locals bought my prints of Clapham, Battersea and Wandsworth. Rain or shine I would set up my stall and I must say I miss it. Working in a nice dry studio these days with a professional framer almost next door I don’t miss the rain, and the wind. I do miss the bacon sandwiches from Tony’s cafe which was ten or so steps away. It was the perfect way to start a fine art photography business and now I sell my prints and do commissions for clients in the UK and all over the world.

But it all started with the prints of Clapham and Battersea.

Prints of Clapham

I was pitching to a very local market and I was beginning to know my customer. People who lived off Northcote Road wanted local prints and the print above was one of the first prints of Clapham that became popular. An estate agent I knew joked that this particular print was in every 3 bedroom terraced house in SW11. You can see this print here.

Print of Battersea Power Station

The print above was another popular one at my stall in the beginning. I’ve written another blog about this particular Battersea Power Station print. Once I started to work for corporate clients I began to understand that they often wanted two or three framed prints. I began to think much more about sets of prints. This much larger print is hanging in an office very near the newly developed US Embassy complex in Nine Elms London. You can see it here.

It was becoming clear in the first year running my stall that I needed more framed prints, and particularly sets of prints for my new corporate clients. I needed to be constantly refreshing and adding to my galleries. When it snowed I saw an opportunity to get some more images. I rode around Clapham and Battersea on my bike and the two images above were part of a good new set I could sell. I have the one on the left in my sitting room at home. You can see these in the London black and white gallery here.
