Black and white prints of Paris for an office.
Paris is a photographers paradise and I think it’s a black and white paradise. I’ve been slowly adding prints of Paris to my black and white collection over the years and although I don’t go back there that often Paris continues to inspire me to produce more fine art prints. I’ve been making prints of Arc de Triomphe for many years and below is my most recent one. It’s a new limited edition print and the framed print below is sitting in an office in central London. You can see it here.
I use a medium format camera for just about all of my black and white prints. Many of my prints need to be printed in quite large sizes so I need a smooth film. I like the contrast I get from Ilford 100ISO. I’ll make several test prints before I make the final one. Quite a lot of work goes in to making a print, they are all limited edition and very few people I know use film and make the prints by hand. You can read about my process here on one of my previous blogs.
Paris is great for black and white because of the subtlety of many of the city scenes. New York is great for ‘in your face’ colour, London is great for panoramics, and Paris just seems to suit black and white. The light in the above print shoots so well in black and white. You can see this print here.
Below the bridges and the detail on the Paris bridges can make great sets of prints. The framed print below is hanging in a Manchester office which has a branch in Paris. There are a number of Paris prints hanging in this office, all part of a set of Paris bridges.
