Albert Bridge at Night and London prints

When I first came to London in February 1985 I had a friend who lived in South West London and I was invited to a party in Battersea Park. As a young photographer thinking about what I should do next in my life I stood next to The Thames looking out of the most beautiful bridge. When I first saw The Albert Bridge and had no idea that it would play such a large part in my life. Many years later I was working for a well known magazine and they asked me go to South London and take some portrait images of a Bride to be used in an Australian bridal magazine. The main part of the article was shot in a smart Kensington flat and they needed a few London ‘lifestyle’ images. We all decamped down to the north embankment and my job was to photograph the model bride walking across the road with the bridge in the background. The article was a success and occasionally I see Brides and Grooms having their pictures taken in front of the bridge. I now spend my time as a ‘fine art photographer’ and I concentrate on landscapes rather than people and framed prints rather than magazines. The print below is one of the colour prints I have of Albert Bridge and it’s hanging in an office in South West London very near where I attended that party in 1985.

I print very large prints sometimes and the large panoramic prints I produce are 52” wide. I use very slow film for my colour prints. Fuji Velvia is my film of choice and at 64ISO I can can make lovely smooth prints. I always use a tripod and everything is done by hand in my studio in South London. The prints are framed by hand at the framers next door. The black and white Albert bridge print you can see below is here.

Although Albert Bridge is a landscape view and makes a great panoramic I also have a number of black and white prints that work really well as a set. Offices often need a set of prints to run down a corridor of up a staircase and the two prints below can be found in The London black and white gallery here.

These were taken on black and white film. I like to use 100ISO Ilford black and white film as I like the very dark inky blacks this film produces. These are both limited edition prints and the are 1 of 150. I normally only make only 150 prints as it makes them unique and collectable. A lot of work goes into the production of my prints and I like to think they are well priced.
