Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

This policy explains how Akaroa Gallery ("we", "us") handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ) and its thirteen Information Privacy Principles.

1. What we collect

  • Information you give us: your name, email address, and message content when you contact us.
  • Information collected automatically: IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and referring URLs, collected via server logs and analytics cookies (see our Cookie Policy).

We do not collect financial information, government identifiers, or any information about your gambling activity on third-party sites.

2. Why we collect it

  • To respond to your enquiries and corrections.
  • To understand how the Site is used and improve our content.
  • To protect the Site against abuse and maintain security.

We collect only what is necessary for these purposes (IPP 1) and collect it directly from you or your device (IPP 2–4).

3. Disclosure

We do not sell personal information. We disclose it only to: (a) service providers who host the Site or provide analytics, bound by confidentiality; (b) where required by law. Some service providers may store data outside New Zealand; where they do, we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable safeguards apply (IPP 12).

4. Storage and security

Personal information is stored on access-controlled systems and retained only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected (IPP 5, 9). Contact-form correspondence is deleted after 24 months unless an open issue requires it.

5. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to the personal information we hold about you (IPP 6) and ask us to correct it (IPP 7). Email hello@akaroagallery.com — we will respond within 20 working days as the Act requires.

6. Complaints

If you believe we have breached this policy or the Privacy Act, contact us first and we will investigate. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner: privacy.org.nz or 0800 803 909.

7. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time; the current version always lives at this URL with its "last updated" date.
