Prints of The Statue of Liberty New York.

I first went to New York when I worked for a picture library in 1989. My job then was to take pictures of mountains and beaches. This was in the good old days of film and the internet and digital were still a way off. On my way back to London I would drop my film off at the office in New York and be a tourist for a day or two. It was in New York that I first started making images of cityscapes not London. Although I loved being around those mountains and beaches it was a means to an end. My passion was cities. The print below is still in limited edition and you can see it here.

The years have gone by and I’ve only been back to New York few times, generally en-route to somewhere else. Each time I make a few more prints to keep my collection updated. The Statue of Liberty is such a great black and white subject and when the clouds behind are looking good I’ve made some great sets that can hang together. Both up close and miles away it’s always and easy subject and doesn’t require any complicated camera exposures. I use medium format film which allows me to make very large prints if needed.

Prints of the Statue of Liberty make great standalone pieces. There are lots of other great individual bits of architecture and buildings in New York but much of the skyline view in new York is a row of Skyscrapers. You can see all of these in either the Black and White New York prints gallery or the New York colour gallery.
